Palm Oil Firms Take Part in 'Love My Palm Oil' Campaign

Thirty-one producers of palm oil-based products have agreed to put the "Sayangi Sawitku” labels on their products in support of the Government’s “Love My Palm Oil” campaign.

Primary Industries Minister Teresa Kok Suh Sim said the move was agreed to at a meeting with representatives of the companies here today.

The companies, which are involved in, among others, food, beverages, health care, cosmetics and fertilisers, will become ambassadors promoting the advantages of palm oil.

“They are also prepared to be involved in conducting related briefings, activities and programmes nationwide to promote the efficacy and benefits of using palm oil as an ingredient,” she told reporters after the meeting her today.

Kok said the industry players’ readiness to be involved in the campaign will indirectly help promote their products to consumers, especially those who like palm oil’s benefits.

She said over 80 percent of products in the local market have palm oil as an ingredient.

She said she will once again visit European Union (EU) countries in May to explain to their leaders the real situation regarding the palm oil industry in Malaysia.

"Most of the government leaders and Members of the European Parliament do not really understand how oil palm is cultivated, how we preserve the environment and the Government’s efforts towards sustainable palm oil, all this will be explained during the visits,” she said.
