A Biomass Conference With A Difference
As the world transitions into the green economy, renewable agricultural biomass has incited much business interests. The reasons are obvious since such biomass holds tremendous potential to generate wealth. There is much evidence confirming the feasibility of converting such raw materials into energy and other higher value products for the world market. In Malaysia, we are blessed with massive quantities of oil palm biomass, prominent among them is the EFB, Empty Fruit Bunch. Each year the country produces over 20 million tonnes of EFBs. Though there are other potential oil palm biomass, EFBs are the easiest to collect since they are available at all the close to 500 palm oil mills in the country. Recognising this, the government has launched the National Biomass Action Plan to drive the country’s value creation from biomass. It has been estimated that the economic wealth which can accrue is massive, running into billions of ringgit.
The Oil Palm Biomass Conference 2025 is an attempt to provide businesses, investors, technology developers and the government the latest on the progress made turning such biomass into another economic power house for the nation. However, this conference is designed to be different. We know conferences often get a bad rap for being dull or overly formal. We are strategising this conference to be more engaging, meaningful, and highly impactful. Instead of the usual paper after paper presentations, we will conduct a more interactive and focus conference format. Panel discussions will be the prominent feature where experts will analyse and share their views on the topics assigned to each panel session. One lead paper will provide the scene setting for the session. The panellists will dive deep into the issues. This way, participants will have more opportunities to raise questions and seek clarifications.
The objectives are to understand the business potential, the technological challenges and the economic realities of investments in the oil palm biomass. There will be much opportunities for networking and partnership building. More than 500 participants are expected to attend. We have lined up an impressive list of lead speakers and panellists including leading experts in R&D, business, and internationally renowened consultants. The Minister of Plantations and Commodities, Dato Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, will grace the opening. Ten companies are sponsoring. More sponsorship of the conference are welcome. Some leading companies will exhibit their products. Many are looking forward to this first ever conference designed to be engaging, stimulating, informative yet exciting. It is an opportunity not to be missed.
